I must give the cheese curds 5 stars. Excellent.

Great food. Great service! Prices were fare. Cheese curds and the cordon blue were excellent.

This place was just within walking distance of the hotel I was staying at. When I asked the front desk about here, they gave me a sheepish response about it being a sports bar and "just bar food." Well you wouldn't think being in Wisconsin that it would really matter that much, being a sports ball and all. But I realized after what they were talking about was both the food and the service -- the former being fair at best, and the latter being unacceptable. I arrived on Sunday night, with your typical post-Packers football game on one of their multiple screens over the bar. (Well, one of them was showing a long infomercial.) There's a real local crowd here, but the type of crowd that didn't seem to venture outside of town much. I learned the guy working the bar and serving my food also owns the place. I overhead him mentioning that he bought it from a woman who didn't have enough dishes and had the place in disrepair. I ordered two beers, which were the best part for them being so inexpensive. (The Oktoberfest was just 2 bucks on draft.) The glasses were well chilled, and I could always expected good bar service. I ordered the broiled haddock and a baked potato -- both tasted alright, but very plain looking on the plate. (Don't expect anything beyond margarine in a mini peel-off and sour cream in a small plastic container.) The worst part is It took me nearly 15 minutes to receive my bill after I asked for it. Not just on the time I waited, but the dazed response from the owner who said to me, "Oh I didn't know you asked for it." (Really? Because you were so busy serving drinks to your regulars on the end of the bar and ignoring me?) I left a 12% tip, and I felt even that was too generous. No apology, and not even a working pen. This is a sports bar that doesn't give out-of-towners anywhere near the level of service and attention that they give to the local regulars. But that being said, it's a place that is no where near the shape it should be to run smoothly. The last thing I heard while leaving was the owner saying, "Nothing around here works anymore." My recommendation is if you really need a place to just drink beer and catch the game, this will certainly do. If you're planning on having dinner, go to the Subway, Burger King, McDonald's, or Tom's Restaurant nearby.

I love Dan...... Not only does he make amazing shots, but he is nice, and personable and somehow had the ability to know when I needed a drink and when my boyfriend needed something. He was super funny and nice even though in the beginning he did pick on me a bit more than I like! :) We were staying across the street at the hotel for the holidays, and with the snow being so crazy, didn't want to go far. So we were here almost every day we were in town. Typical sports bar, lots of room though, good extensive food menu and great bartenders. My only complaint was that the waitress we had both times (same girl) forgot everything and we had to ask for things sometimes 3 times. But when we sat at the bar with Dan, everything was perfect.

Usually I wait a little longer than four times at some place to write a review but I think this deserved one immediately. This place has the best fish fry I've had in a long time. I've been having a very difficult time finding a good place in Appleton for a good fish fry. The 5th Quarter not only has good fish but really nice big portions for a very reasonable price. I think I may have seen coupons for their food in the color mailer or one of those ad books too. Not sure. But the price is so reasonable anyway. You get 4-5 big piece of fish, about twice as much as most restaurants I've been too. They have good slaw too. The service was very good two times, good once and poor once. I'm a big stickler on service so I'll reserve judgment on this just yet. Possibly that server was having a bad day, and my experience has been mostly good here. But the fish alone is enough to draw me in. I've always been able to get seating right away, every time I went. And the dining area has been quiet even when there were quite a few people around. The nice thing is the dining area is mostly closed off from the bar area off to the side by itself. I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars, because it wasn't completely perfect, but not enough to take a whole star away. You should definitely check it out. This is the 12-14 place I've tried in the Fox Valley for fish and the first I was very happy with the fish fry.
